Well, in this blog, I would be talking about data export
from a PBCS application. This arose from a business query on exporting data
from a Planning application. The below snapshot is the data that needs to be
exported out of a Planning application.
Now, we will be using data management for exporting data from the application. The EPM application metadata is as shown in the below snapshot.
The first step that needs to be done is add a Target application in data management as shown in the below snapshots. The application that we plan to add is Local and choose “Custom application” from the application type dropdown.
The name of the application is DATAEXP (so much for
imaginative names) and it has a metadata structure similar to the source
application.
Just check the “Enable export to file” in the Application
Options is set to Yes as shown in the below snapshot.
The next step is to define the import format. Note the
source application and target application in the below snapshot. The source
application is the MHPLAN1 application and the target application is DATAEXP
i.e. the local custom application that we have created in the above steps.
I just define the members and map them to corresponding
fields as shown in the below snapshot.
The next step is to define a location and add the Import
Format to this location. I have created a location called as
“Data_Export_Location” as shown in the below snapshot.
Now, the next step is to define a data load rule for this location. This is shown in the next couple of snapshots.
I now go to the Data Load workbench and see click on the
import button as shown in the next couple of snapshots.
As you can see the data has been imported successfully from
the MHPLAN1 application. However, since the mappings have not been defined the
data import validation fails.
I define simple generic mappings as shown in the below
snapshot for the remaining dimensions as shown in the below snapshot.
Once the mappings are defined, the data load is successfully
validated as shown in the below snapshot.
Once the data load rule has been validated, I click on the
export button and the data is now exported to the custom application DATAEXP as
shown in the below snapshot.
Now, the data that is exported would be present as a file in
the outbox folder as shown in the below snapshot.
Contents of the file is as shown in the below snapshot.
