Hyperion EPM installation in a distributed environment – Sample architecture of the servers

In this blog, I would be talking about a research project that I was working on recently. The project was how to create a sample Hyperion EPM infrastructure using Oracle VirtualBox and do an install on these servers to get a fully functioning Hyperion EPM system. Please note that although the system works, it is running on the bare minimum strength in terms of computer resources like RAM and disk space.

The infrastructure architecture is as shown in the below snapshot:
A brief description on each of the servers is given below:

  • Oracle: This server will be running the Oracle 11g database. This database would have all the relational schemas that we are using for the Hyperion EPM environment.

  • Foundation: This server will be running the Oracle HTTP server and the foundation components like Workspace, Shared Services and Calculation Manager.

  • Planning: This server will be running all the Hyperion applications like Planning, HFM, HPCM and FDMEE.

  • Essbase: This server will be running the Essbase server and would be the data store for the Essbase/Planning application data.
Each of these servers has the following specifications:

  • RAM: 3GB
  • Disk Space: 40GB Allocated dynamically
  • Operating System: Windows Server 2012
  • Internet Connectivity: No
  • Ethernet Connectivity: Yes
